Hope Kennels’ dogs live up to their working dog heritage.  No matter the activity they participate in with their families, they love to show off and be the center of attention.  We encourage our families to try out a variety of activities including conformation, water work, agility, or fetch to name a few.

  • We couldn't be happier with our decision to welcome Obi into our family, and we owe it all to Hope Kennels. From the moment we first met Obi, we knew we had found the perfect companion. His goofy personality, desire to please, and loving nature have brought endless joy to our lives. He is truly the best first family dog we could have HOPED for! The care and attention that Hope Kennels puts into raising their dogs is evident in every way. Obi is not just a pet; he’s truly a member of our family. We’re forever grateful for the wonderful start Hope Kennels gave him.

  • We have known Christine and Chris Peper for many years. When it came time to find a puppy for my family, I didn’t need to look far. They get each puppy socialized and ready for their forever loving home. So much love goes into each puppy. We are so grateful for their love and passion for these puppies and this breed. It does not go unnoticed! Our puppy is a testament of their dedication and love for these dogs. Chris and Christine go the extra mile to make sure each puppy is updated on all health care and nutrition. We truly love how they stay in touch no matter how old the puppies get. Not only did we get a beautiful and loving puppy, we also got a second family with Chris and Christine. Thank you so much for this beautiful puppy that we love so much! Stitch has been a big part of our family since we got him. We can not wait to get another one from you!

  • When I was 10-years-old, my family got a Portuguese Water Dog from Hope Kennels. Now, 20 years later, I have a 2-year-old puppy from the same wonderful place. I love Portuguese Water Dogs’ friendly and intelligent personalities, and have been consistently impressed by Hope Kennels' dedication to raising healthy, happy puppies. They even introduce the puppies to different sounds, like fireworks on the Fourth of July; and experiences, like playing in water; to help them build confidence. Hope Kennels is a truly responsible breeder, taking the time to match each puppy with the right family. I’m grateful for Hope Kennels and the joy their dogs have brought me!

  • We had such a wonderful experience working with Christine and Chris to get our pup, Lando. From the very first visit, we could feel how loved and well cared for all the puppies were. My husband has had dogs before, but never Portuguese Water Dogs. And this was my very first dog, something I’ve dreamed about for a long time. Christine and Chris made the entire process feel comfortable and exciting rather than overwhelming. Christine was especially incredible with communication and educating us about PWD’s. She regularly sent photos and updates, kept us informed after each of Lando’s vet visits, and was always available to answer my many first-time dog mom questions with patience and kindness. When it came time to bring Lando home, we felt completely prepared. Christine had already established a routine for him, which made the transition so smooth. We simply followed the same schedule, and he adjusted beautifully. She also provided a thoughtful list of items to purchase ahead of time, sent us home with helpful information, and even included a blanket that smelled like his siblings, which meant so much and he still cuddles with during his naps. She even gave us a list of groomers and puppy classes to enroll Lando in, so we never felt truly alone! Fast forward to today, Christine has continued to be there for us to answer questions and be a support and we feel so grateful. She built a community of loving, caring people who truly love and care about PWD’s and all animals, and we are so lucky to be a part of this community! The day we picked Lando up was truly one of the happiest days of our lives. We are so grateful to Christine and Chris for not only raising such a wonderful puppy, but for supporting us every step of the way. We couldn’t recommend them more highly!!

  • Our experience with Hope Kennels has been excellent. They provided communication from the planning process before the puppies were born through the adoption day. Chris and Christine took the time to listen to us and got to know our family. My wife & I visited the puppies and then we brought our son, daughter & their children to meet the puppies. Chris & Christine watched our interactions with the puppies and they helped select the perfect puppy that would work for our family. Our puppy Luna (L litter) is our second Hope Kennel dog. She is very adaptable thanks to the many opportunities she experienced as a puppy with her littermates.em

  • Our family has had an excellent experience with Hope Kennels. Our daughter purchased her first-dog-ever from them, and boy, were we impressed! Their unyielding support and advice gave her the ability to raise a confident and delightful companion. After watching that, we knew that we had found our breeder for the next Portuguese Water Dog. (Our third.) They did not disappoint! Our wonderful Tilly is a product of being raised in a home filled with constant nurturing and outstanding care. In addition, Hope Kennels is a responsible breeder where the looks of the dog come second to their health. Their love for the breed is seen by their high standards. When placing each puppy, they consider the puppy's unique temperament -and energy level- and how it will blend with the lifestyle of the new owners. As retirees, we were told that Tilly would be content to sit on the couch each evening and relax with us, and they were right! (Our first Portuguese Water Dog was the opposite, preferring to play after dinner with our energetic children.) Tilly has turned out to be a perfect fit for my husband and me. In addition, we not only found a lovely new member of our family, we also gained new friendships through Hope Kennels based on our shared affection for Portuguese Water Dogs. They are that special.
